Meeting with Spina Bifida Hydrocephalus Scotland

Fascinating meeting with Spina Bifida Hydrocephalus Scotland today – the Cumbernauld based charity whose specialist staff work all across Scotland to provide information and support to those affected by spina bifida, hydrocephalus and related conditions.

Today you might see Chief Exectuive Andy Wynd on the news making the case for fortification of bread with folic acid. As the BBC has reported, folic acid plays a crucial role in preventing neural tube defects such as spina bifida. But 85% of women do not take enough. You can read more about that story here – http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-35377163

Despite many other countries doing this, the UK has failed to follow suit, despite support from all the Chief Medical Officers. This is something I’ve undertaken to pursue at Westminster.
