I spoke this morning in a debate on the problems associated with Fixed Odds Betting Terminals, or FOBTs. The lax rules around FOBTs seems pretty extraodinary – with the possibility of up to £100 being lost in just 20 seconds, in an environment with minimal supervision or regulation.

£2 is deemed the correct stake for machines in arcades and bingo halls, which have higher levels of supervision. It’s time for the UK government to hurry up with its review of stakes and prizes and close the loopholes that FOBTs operate in.

As a member and vice-chair of the new All Party Parliament Group on this, I’ll work with colleagues to make sure that happens.
