I’m glad the new SNP administration in East Dunbartonshire are attempting to have the lights at the Catherine Street junction reinstated as a matter of urgency.

However, it’s incredibly frustrating for residents that opposition councillors don’t appear to fully appreciate the strength of feeling there is around this issue, meaning progress has been delayed.

Disabled campaigner Sandy Taylor has today hit out at the “reprehensible” Liberal Democrat amendment which will result in lengthy consultations before lights can be reinstated, instead of taking immediate action to sort out the problem.

While it’s welcome that some progress is now being made, local people must continue to to make all councillors fully aware of the need for change – and I will help make sure constituents can do just that.
